I was not consulted about the Academy Awards

Million Dollar Baby is an entertaining film with lots of foreshadowing. There is no doubt that if the last quarter of the film had been changed to something happier, it wouldn't have won so many awards. Most of the awards that the film won were not supposed to be purely based on plot. Watching the film, it is clear that the film would have won any awards at all of the last quarter of it were changed. I enjoyed Million Dollar Baby, but the effectiveness of the film hangs on the plot more than the actors' performances.

Morgan Freeman performs well in the movie. I liked this dialogue in particular:

Frankie Dunn: You got big holes in your socks.
Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris: They're only not that big.
Frankie Dunn: Didn't I give you money for some new ones?
Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris: These are my sleeping socks, my feet like a little air at night.
Frankie Dunn: How come you're wearing them in the day time then?
Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris: Cause my daytime socks got too many holes in them.
Frankie Dunn: Well if I give you some more money buy some new socks, please?
Eddie Scrap-Iron Dupris: I couldn't say for sure, might find it's way to the track.

However, Clive Owen in Closer had a better-developed character and performance, and should have won the Best Supporting Actor. Maybe they feel that Freeman is getting to old to have any more chances to win awards, but Owen will have more opportunities in the future.
